GBI

GBI (Guaranteed Basic Income) is a social program that provides $1,000 to all citizens in the nation. While this may seem like a waste of money, or promote laziness – note that $1,000 is below the poverty line, and no one wants to live below the poverty line. GBI allows for citizens to pursue their desires, or gives that little boost of assistance when their employment income is just not enough. And because GBI is provided to every adult citizen, there is no requirement on eligibility other than proving you are a citizen of the nation.

GBI will be funded with taxes that would be passed to corporations, and the wealthy. This will help assure that everyone pays their fair share in taxes, and eliminates disability programs, unemployment programs and future elderly programs.

One might be asking why offer GBI. As time goes on, automation and AI will start to replace human workers. Think of it, what pay someone $25 per hour when one can pay $50,000 for a machine that would do the exact same thing. This means that the citizen lost their job to a machine, and there is simply no way to compete with that. Again, as mentioned – GBI is still below poverty line. It would give the person a boost in assistance while they work part-time, and go to university full time to hopefully get a new job. If GBI was not offered, then the citizen might have been stuck in a low paying job because they don’t have the skills needed for the job that humans can’t be replaced with.

In addition to receiving $1,000 per month, anyone turning 18 (or emancipated) will be given $50,000 which they can do whatever they want. This is because children are not given a GBI, and the guardians are responsible for the well being of the child. With that in mind, the money provided is a little more than 4 years of payment that would otherwise be. This is intended to assure that a bad acting parent does not steal the child’s money for themselves. The $50,000 can be used however the new adult wishes too.
