The NIN (National ID Number) is the public ID number for everyone that needs one. This is far from the GIN which should only be known by the person the number belongs to. The NIN is the ID card number, Health1 account number, social welfare services number, bank account number, private postal address number (if chosen), and the basis for their telephone number. The NIN as you can see is very important, but it is again intended for the public to know the number. With so much functionality, the NIN is a very important number to have.
Everyone that has an NIN will also have a GIN. This is standard, and intended to assure that there doesn’t need to be two systems in place. Foreigners can acquire an NIN considering they might need a Kaldan telephone number, or they might be intending on staying in Kaldus long term, acquiring the appropriate numbers (including the NIN) will be very important.
One thing that some may have recognized is I mentioned this is a bank account number as well. Now some may question why make the bank account number a public number. The recipient can not take money out of the bank account. Simply put, this is not a possibility due to the security policies of KNB. Instead, the sender must send the money to the recipient. When the bank account becomes active, the customer will be informed that the bank will never call, and say they have to move the money to another account. This phishing attempt is how most of the money is lost due to scams. This means knowing the bank account number is not enough to take money out. However, the account owner can send money to someone else just by knowing their NIN. There is no routing number, and unique account number to figure out. It is just the NIN. There is only a need for 1 account per NIN. There is no reason to have multiple accounts.
