The CSIP (Code Standards Improvement Program) is intended to provide low income home owners with the ability to get their residence updated to priority 1 code standards. This will apply for up to $50,000 and can only be used to bring the house up to code standards. Priority 1 code standards involves the following components:
- Communications
- Electricity
- Gas Line Removal
- Insulation
- No VOCs
- Water and Sewage
Communications
Ka-Tel will not support POTS nor DSL if there are other options available. Ever residence getting major renovation done must use RJ45 for communications throughout the residence. This is intended to replace telephone and coaxial. All RJ45 lines will run to a patch panel in the communications closet, and from there – they will connect to a 1GBPS+ switch, and then to the router. The router connects to a modem (DSL/Cable Internet), or directly into the RJ45 WAN jack for fiber optic. There will not be coaxial lines running beyond the communications closet. Using “cable” TV will use a set top box as normally, but the TV will plug into the set top box with Coaxial or HDMI, and the set top box will plug into ethernet. For areas where DSL is the only option, then the resident will need to use indoor OTA antennas until they receive better options. For telephone, one will likely use an ATA, or SIP phone
Electrical
There will be NMB sheathing electrical lines for the home. The renovation will likely mean that walls will come down. Any hidden knob and tube wiring, or hidden junction boxes will be replaced with NMB sheathing. Non-GFI outlets will have 2 USB-C ports for charging. The current electrical outlet standard will be used unless there is a need to replace the standard.
Gas Line Removal
Gas will be replaced with electric. This means the heating, hot water, and cooking will all be converted to electric. With the case of hot water, an electric tankless hot water system will be provided. Once the gas lines are removed, they can be added to the registry with KPW (Kaldus Power and Water) to not have gas service anymore.
Insulation
Exterior walls must have an R-Value of 24 to be considered up to code. This means that it will likely be that perimeter walls will need to come down to use closed cell spray foam insulation.
No VOCs
VOC is Violatile Organic Compounds. This is unhealthy, and can even have a chance of causing cancer. Nothing containing VOCs will be allowed to be sold anywhere in Kaldus.
Water and Sewage
New flex PEX pipes will be used. In addition, any clay or lead pipes will be replaced with PVC pipes. All water lines will be color coded, and a manifold will be used to run a line from the manifold to the fixture. Other than the manifold, there will be no branching. An exception of this will be to branch the bathroom sink’s cold line to the toilet feed line. Obviously, if the bathroom sink needs to have maintenance done, the toilet will also be out of commission.
